Course Objectives

This course aims to equip participants with the skills to:

  • Effectively communicate sustainability in the tourism and events industry
  • Delve into the art of storytelling and learn to craft impactful narratives that resonate with audiences
  • Master key messaging for sustainability
  • Understand the power of storytelling
  • Create communication plans
  • Analyzing case studies for practical insights
  • Drive positive change, promote and implement sustainable practices

Course Outline

This is a hydrid course. You will be required to do self-paced learning of 1.5 hours prior to attending class. More details will be offered in an email to learners 1 week prior to class.

In-person Class (1 day of 8.5 hours):

Module 1: The Power of Story: Rethinking Communication
Explore best practices in storytelling through a glimpse into leading global campaigns. Analyze regeneration-focused examples and engage in class discussions on lateral thinking and campaign impact. Learn to derive crucial insights to inform your narrative.

Module 2: Communicating Sustainability: Tools for Brand Building and Behavior Change
Delve into key messaging, transitioning from sustainability to regeneration. Understand how tourism and events can drive systemic change, manage risks, and generate opportunities. Explore the power of storytelling, guidelines for sustainability narratives, and stakeholder engagement. Conclude with a group activity creating stakeholder maps.

Module 3: Case Studies: Best Practices for Story Development
Examine two Asian case studies, analyzing their construct and applicability in informing stakeholders. Foster discussion on lessons learned for practical application in your business.

Module 4: Applying Knowledge: Create Your Destination's Communication Plan
Work in groups to develop communication plans for your destination. Presentations and Q&A sessions provide opportunities for peer learning. Conclude with a wrap-up session to recap key insights and close the course. This comprehensive program equips participants with storytelling tools to effectively communicate sustainability in the dynamic fields of tourism and events.

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

  • Upon meeting the attendance and assessment(s) criteria, participants will be awarded with a digital Statement of Attainment (SOA), accredited by SkillsFuture Singapore. SOA will be reflected as [TOU-PRE-4001-1.1-1: Marketing Communications Plan Development L4].
  • Upon meeting the attendance and assessment(s) criteria, participants will be awarded with a digital Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.
  • With the completion of two (2) Core modules prescribed by SACEOS, learners will attain the Certified Event Sustainability (CES) accreditation.
  • Certificate of completion from NTUC LearningHub

Upon meeting at least 75% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.

  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses.
  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments and attain 100% competency.
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
